5 out of 5 stars Consistently good magazine.   March 4, 2008
Susan K. Bobrick (Houston, TX)
I have been a female reader of Men's Journal for 10 years. The articles are always very good, open and fair, and of excellent journalistic quality. They have product reviews, health questions, sports information, etc. The magazine is well balanced and only has a few 'men only' related articles. It is also very cheap as far as magazines go and this was a gift subscription for someone. Everyone I have ever gifted it to has liked it.

2 out of 5 stars Still haven't received my first issue   July 11, 2007

I would suggest not ordering magazines from Amazon. I placed an order on April 9th and it's now July 11th and I still haven't received my first issue. You're better off just going to the store and picking out one of those post cards inside the magazine and ordering it directly from the publishing company. I called the third party that Amazon uses for magazine subscriptions to find out why I hadn't received my first issue as scheduled and they said my condo number was cut off when my address was sent to them from Amazon. You would think someone would contact me to correct the issue but they waited for me to call them (I called them only after the maximum first issue delivery date had expired). That set my first issue delivery date back to sometime in August, five months from my original order. It just seems like too many things can go wrong when you're passing information back and forth like amazon does with their third party vendors. There's no discount or incentive to buy directly from Amazon so why risk the hassle. It makes more sense to just go directly to the source and order magazines.

The Men's Journal is a great magazine and Amazon came through as promised.

2 out of 5 stars Rude letters when you do not renew   March 21, 2007

This unethical company sends you faux debt collection type letters when you opt not to renew your subscription. The content is hit or miss and the retention attempts by their subscription department is just the last nail in the coffin for me with them. I will NOT be subscribing or buying another copy of this magazine. Half of it is ads anyways.

3 out of 5 stars Armchair Adventurers Only   January 19, 2007

I bought this magazine on a regular basis many years ago. Subscribed again for variety in my magazine diet but cancelled it after 2 issues. The volume and content has slimmed quite a bit since the early days.

The focus is now mostly on where people go for physical activities. Less focus on gear review and doesn't inspire one to "get-out-there" as much as previously.

Heartstart Defibrillators - What You Need to Know Before Buying
By Mark Glazer

The Phillips Company manufactures HeartStart defibrillators, one of the AED, or Automatic External Defibrillators. The company produces equipment designed to assist in public safety. Whether it is airbags, fire extinguishers, home security systems, they specialize in devices that protect the average citizen and those they love.

Heart attacks and incidents of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), account for nearly a quarter of a million deaths in the United States every year. What causes them is not completely understood. Very often, the person will have no history of any kind of heart disease, and a SCA can come at any time, in any place, and disable virtually anyone. HeartStart defibrillators are not only the first defibrillator intended for home use without a doctor's prescription; it is currently the only one available. When you consider that every minute after a heart attack or SCA is vital to the patient's survival, having a device that almost any person can operate increases their chance of living. According to medical experts, the first five minutes after the onset of ventricular fibrillation are critical. If a defibrillator is used within that time period, the patient has the best hope of surviving. However, it has been determined that not even one person in twenty survives a SCA due to the fact that a defibrillator is not available in time.

Automated External Defibrillators are intended for use in offices, restaurants, stores, gyms and countless other locations where medical attention can not be provided in a timely fashion. In the case of HeartStart defibrillators, it has a vocal mechanism that gives very clear and precise instructions in a soft voice that talks a person through every step of its use. The device senses the actions of the user and adapts its instructions based on them. HeartStart defibrillators can quickly decide if a shock even needs to be carried out. If it determines that an electrical jolt is not needed, it can then walk the user through all of the steps of CPR. The machine is powerful and versatile, and a useful weapon in the fight against the ravages of heart disease.

Many smart people have purchased a home defibrillator. Visit AED Defibrillator Information to learn what the Phillips defibrillator has to offer that others don't.
